TEMPORARY BRIDGE TO BE BUILT OVER 241 TOLL ROAD
Construction of temporary bridge scheduled to begin Monday night.
Toll Road will stay open during the day.

IRVINE, CA (August 18, 2006) – Lane striping and placement of K-rail began this week to prepare for the construction of  a temporary bridge that will be used by construction equipment to haul dirt safely across the toll road without impacting traffic flow.

The temporary bridge will be located on the SR 241 one mile south of the Chapman Avenue off ramp in an area called Loma Ridge. Traffic lanes will be reduced from three to two lanes in each direction through the ½-mile project area.

“Safety and maintaining traffic flow for toll road users is our priority during this project,” said Jim Thor, Chairman of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency.

Construction equipment will be removing soil from the top of the slope located on the east side of the 241 Toll Road in order to reduce pressure to avoid potential movement of the slope.  The slope has been monitored since the toll road opened in 1998 and it began to show signs of potential movement during heavy rains in the winter of 2004/2005.  Silverado Constructors will repair the slope, at no cost to TCA or Caltrans, in accordance with a 10-year warranty.
