CITY OF CORONA URGES COASTAL COMMISSION TO APPROVE COMPLETION OF STATE ROUTE 241

IRVINE, Calif. (January 7, 2008) – The City of Corona unanimously approved a resolution urging the California Coastal Commission to approve the completion of the 241 Toll Road at a January 2 City Council meeting.

“Severe traffic congestion throughout the region limits the ability of Corona residents and businesses to conveniently access coastal areas in Orange County and San Diego said Corona Mayor Jeff Miller.  “The 241 Toll Road will improve our quality of life and enhance local economies by reducing traffic congestion.”

Regional transportation planning agencies project traffic will worsen substantially in the next few years due to population growth in Southern California. The completion of State Route 241 will result in significant relief from Interstate 5 traffic congestion and offer Inland Empire drivers an inland alternative to Interstate 5.

The final segment of the 241 Toll Road – a 16-mile stretch from Rancho Santa Margarita that will connect to Interstate 5 on Camp Pendleton – is an essential piece of the region’s master plans for transportation. The toll road has been carefully planned to balance the need for traffic relief with environmental protection. The Coastal Commission will vote on the project at the Commission’s February 6-8 meeting in San Diego. More information: www.RelieveTraffic.org.
