TOLL ROAD AGENCY DISPUTES LT. GOV. GARAMENDI’S CHARACTERIZATIONS
Agency corrects major errors in lieutenant governor’s public letter

IRVINE, Calif. (June 16, 2008) – Transportation Corridor Agencies CEO Tom Margro today sent a sharply worded letter to Lt. Gov. John Garamendi regarding his observations about how the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) has conducted the planning process for the completion of the 241 Toll Road.

Margro corrected the record as to the ongoing deliberative process, which includes five transportation and environmental agencies that collaborate regularly, and reiterated the 20-year history of agency and public input. He also pointed to Garamendi’s career as a public official as ample background for understanding the complex process of building major infrastructure.

“Your repeated acknowledgement of the extreme difficulty of building critical infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing population in the State of California should provide you some context for the frustration felt by this public agency,” Margro stated.

The letter also reiterated an invitation to Lieutenant Governor Garamendi to tour the proposed project site and the accompanying environmental programs.
