MODIFIED AMENDMENT TARGETING 241 TOLL ROAD PASSES
Planning process for completion of the 241 Toll Road could be extended
IRVINE, Calif. (May 9, 2007) – At midnight Eastern Time, the Readiness Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee voted 30-27 to amend the Defense Authorization Bill.
TCA STATEMENT
The Agency received a copy of the amendment late this evening. The amendment is an attempt to change the terms of a lease between the state of California and the federal government for property located on Camp Pendleton.
The alignment for the extension of the 241 Toll Road is located along the northern edge of Camp Pendleton and crosses through a State Park leasehold. The Agency has worked hard to design the roadway to avoid the most sensitive wildlife habitat and the portions of the State Park that are used by the public. There is extensive oversight throughout the process and the Agency’s Board of Directors is committed to building a toll road that relieves traffic congestion and is environmentally sensitive.
ABOUT FOOTHILL-SOUTH
Foothill-South is the final segment of Orange County’s planned 67-mile toll road system. The project has been the subject of regional planning efforts for decades, and has been on the County’s Master Plan of Arterial Highways since 1981. Since 1996, TCA has worked with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) and Caltrans as part of a comprehensive federal environmental review process of project alternatives to relieve traffic in South Orange County.
